Young-Min Kim

Young-Min Kim is a Professor in the Department of Energy Science at Sungkyunkwan University, Korea. He received his Ph.D. (2010) in Materials Science and Engineering from KAIST, Korea, and worked as a researcher at the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) for 14 years, including during his Ph.D. studies. From 2010 to 2013, he was a postdoctoral fellow and visiting scientist in the STEM group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he developed expertise in aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and transition metal oxide thin films. His research group focuses on the atomic-scale structural and chemical characterization of functional nanomaterials and thin films using advanced STEM techniques, including electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), four-dimensional STEM (4D-STEM), and electron tomography. A central theme of his recent work is the integration of these multimodal microscopy capabilities with machine learning and deep learning frameworks, enabling quantitative and high-throughput analysis of complex material systems.
